About Lacamas Pellets & Feed

Lacamas Wood Pellets was started by Dennis and Kathy Railing in December, 2008.

Dennis has lived in the area for 60 years and is currently the division manager for a boiler repair company in Vancouver. When the housing construction slowed down, Kathy was laid off at her job at Dewils Industries. Kathy and I had discussed how everyone was going to miss the old feed store and how many of the people were going to need somewhere else to buy their pellets and feed. The former Lackamas Valley Milling had been at this location for 50 years. Then the building came up for lease. Three weeks later we were ready to try something new.

In the beginning we were selling only the Clean Burn Wood Pellets. Many of our customers are former customers of Lackamas Valley Milling, which had closed up a year before. They were asking if we were going to sell livestock feed. We knew we had to do something besides wood pellets in the summer. So in February 2009 we started carrying livestock feed and changed the business name to Lacamas Pellets and Feed. Lacamas Pellets and Feed does not manufacture feed as did the former Lackamas Valley Milling. We sell only retail products from Albers, Grainland, Mazuri, Allegra, locally grown good quality grass hay and straw. We also carry various salt and mineral blocks and bricks. We are continuously building our inventory and adding new products. We recently started stocking Chaffhaye. We feel Chaffhaye is a great product because of the shelf life and weed free stature. The convenience of the space saving storage makes it great for camping and trail rides.

Besides the feed side of the business we have Clean Burn Wood Pellets, High Energy Firelogs and even Firewood.

Our future plans include stocking fencing supplies and of coarse baby chicks in the spring.

We are coming up on our first anniversary and the future looks good. Our customers have been absolutely great and very understanding. We want to maintain that old feed store style of business and the one-on-one service. We have so many of our customers comment on that feed store smell.

I work out of town most of the time so Kathy has been the go to person most of this year and has done a great job. Our son Jakobb is usually at the store in the afternoons and enjoys chatting with people and helping in any way he can.
Getting to know all these wonderful customers has been a great pleasure.
We have really enjoyed this first year and see many more to come.
